Cristi Cash is an illustrator for local software company Banzai and is also working on launching her own business. Read more about her and her why below!
How would you describe yourself in 10 words or less? Latina, illustrator, down-to-earth, ambitious, work-oriented, intersectional feminist, and driven.
Tell us about what you are hoping to build. A freelance career as an illustrator, textile, and product designer. Eventually, I would love to open my own illustration studio with fellow artists and build a great network within my industry.
What inspired you to start? I always been a creative kid, so I've been lucky to have known what I wanted to be since I was a child. I've loved studying illustration, and that initial love for creating art with meaning has helped me grow a lot as an illustrator. Giving my art a shot as a career has been the best decision ever.
If you have a mission, goal, or vision, what would it be? Through my art, I hope to demonstrate a depth and intimacy to viewers by being as inclusive of all people. I love learning about the human family, and it is absolutely worth a proper representation in all its complexity.
Who is your target audience? Really everyone, from children to adults, anyone who can find a connection and meaning through my art. But I love representing women and people of color especially.
What’s the biggest challenge and biggest success that you’ve experienced so far? Biggest challenge has definitely been trying to begin a freelance career while still being in school. My biggest success, sorry if this seems like a copout, but I think is yet to come. I've got a big show coming up as a senior project exactly in May, and I feel like I've recently made a breakthrough in my style and my subject matter. It's been so exciting and I'm using it to write and illustrate a children's book about feminism and standing up for marginalized people. I'm so in love with the project and have loved working on those illustrations. It'll be a crowning achievement for sure.
What do you hope to learn at and who do you hope to meet at the Braid Workshops? I'd love to learn even more about running my own business. I love learning about it and I get super pumped meeting other people that do it successfully. I'm also always excited to meet other people, particularly women, who are either in my same field, or looking for an illustrator. I love making connections with other people like me.
